Sociálna sieť Instagram sa dostala do hľadáčiku Írskej komisie na ochranu dát – DPC, nakoľko existuje podozrenie, že táto sociálna sieť porušuje nariadenia GDPR. Jedná sa o dáta mladistvých a detí, ktoré využívajú túto aplikáciu.
Spoločnosť Facebook vlastní túto platformu a v prípade, že nastalo porušenie legislatívy im môže byť udelená nemalá pokuta. Táto pokuta sa môže vyšplhať až na 20 miliónov eur.
Sťažnosť spustila vyšetrovací proces
Sťažnosť obsahovala podozrenie, že platforma Instagram dala prístup na kontaktné informácie používateľov tak, že boli dostupné pre každého kto sa prihlásil do aplikácie. Vyšetrovanie sa zaoberá možnosťami nastavenia užívateľského profilu, a či nenastáva porušenie nariadenia GDPR.

V Írsku má sídlo rada amerických technologických firiem . DPC komisia je hlavným regulačným orgánom EU, ktorého úlohou je dohľad nad dodržiavaním ochrany osobných údajov GDPR pričom má aj právomoci na udeľovanie pokút.
Člen írskej komisie vydal vyhlásenie
Graham Doyle prehlásil pre agentúru Reuters, že úrad si určil nejaké oblasti, ktoré by mohli byť problémové. Graham Doyle taktiež oznámil, že toto vyšetrovanie bolo zahájené v septembri. Vyjadrenia od spoločností Facebook a Instagram zatiaľ nepoznáme.
GDPR alebo aj legislatíva na ochranu osobných údajov dáva možnosť orgánom udeliť pokutu za porušenie pravidiel do 4% celosvetových tržieb alebo 20 miliónov eur pričom záleží, ktorá zo sumy bude vyššia.
